Let’s Talk About CDF Skincare

CDF Skincare, which stands for Champ de Fleurs (sha-n de flur) – a field of flowers, is “a skincare line for women who want an island experience by using naturally designed products inspired by the Caribbean.”

Founder Ginger-vee Carter grew up on the island of Trinidad. Watching her mom successfully start a business with soda, beer, water, ice, and a cooler; Carter learned the value of ingenuity and family.

Carter reports she would steal away to her mom’s flower garden and dream of having a
business of her own. In that champ de fleurs, she would dream of having “a company to help women cherish their skin with plants.” In addition to sharing her skincare creations with the world, Carter hopes to also share pieces of her island culture as well.

CDF Skincare was created with the belief that plant-based products are capable of nourishing, correcting and soothing the skin. Carter proudly reports all of her merchandise contains high-quality, natural, organic, and wild-crafted ingredients. She goes on to say that the buyer’s concerns with blemishes, oiliness, and dry skin are treated without chemicals and synthetic ingredients when using CDF Skincare.

Based on the testimonials, the products do what they say they will. Many buyers not only rave about how well the products work, but about the packaging as well.

Speaking of the packaging, CDF uses packaging peanuts that are made of sorghum starch and can be used for composting. Also, vegetable tape that is renewable and biodegradable. Even the box holding the products can be recycled. Carter attests that the CDF Skincare line will never possess:

  • Dibutyl phthalate, which is an endocrine and reproductive disrupter/toxicant.
  • Formaldehyde-releasing preservatives such as: diazolidinyl urea, DMDM hydantoin,
imidazolidinyl urea, quaternium-15 and methenamine. These release small amounts of formaldehyde into skin and has been known to cause cancer.
  • Petrolatum
  • Mineral oil
  • Sulfates that can contain 1,4 dioxane, another carcinogenic.
  • Triclosan (antibacterial agent), said to contribute to antibiotic resistance in bacteria.
  • Siloxane
  • PEG compounds/propylene glycol, which can be contaminated with 1,4-dioxane.
  • Parabens, another endocrine disrupter.
  • DEA, which is a chemical harmful to wildlife and human health.

With 14 creations, CDF Skincare offers products such as scrubs, creams, cleansers, bar soaps and a Charcoal Corrector Mask. The price point may appear to be a bit costly for many of the products. Yet, according to its Web site, some of the CDF Skincare items, when stored properly and depending on how often they are used, can last for months. For example, it is said that a 4 oz jar of facial scrub can last up to six months.
